UVic acknowledges and respects the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples on whose traditional territory the university stands and the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day. As an uninvited guest on unceded lək̓ʷəŋən territory, I continually seek to understand the harmful history of colonization and recognize my privilege as a settler scholar on these lands.

Sonja Pinto recently completed their MA in English at the University of Victoria where they also completed their BA (English Honours) in 2020. During their time at UVic, they have worked as a Research Assistant for Digital Victorian Periodical Poetry and as a Teaching Assistant in the English Department.

This project was created as part of the Peter and Ana Lowens University of Victoria Libraries Special Collections Student Fellowship in spring 2022 with support and supervision by Dr. Rachel Cleves and Dr. Samantha MacFarlane. I would like to extend a special thanks to Heather Dean, Associate Director of UVic’s Special Collections, and Dr. Matthew Huculak, Head of Advanced Research Services & Digital Scholarship Librarian, for their ongoing support and guidance throughout this project.

Please direct any questions or comments about this project to sonjapinto@uvic.ca.
