About
UVic acknowledges and respects the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples on whose traditional territory the university stands and the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day. As an uninvited guest on unceded lək̓ʷəŋən territory, I continually seek to understand the harmful history of colonization and recognize my privilege as a settler scholar on these lands.
Kalea Raposo recently completed her English BA Hons and Anthropology minor at the University of Victoria. She has worked as a Research Assistant for the Crafting Communities Project and the Great Expectations Victorian Pregnancy Project.
This exhibit was created as part of the Peter and Ana Lowens Univerisity of Victoria Libraries Special Collections Student Fellowship in spring 2023 with support and supervision from Dr. Alison Chapman and Dr. Samantha MacFarlane. I would also like to thank Heather Dean, Associate Director of UVic’s Special Collections, and Dr. Matthew Huculak, Head of Advanced Research Services & Digital Scholarship Librarian, for their support throughout this project.
