Abstract
-
According to the document which is published on the website of Ministry of cultural heritage, tourism and handicrafts (https://www.mcth.ir/): Intangible Heritage refers to practices, representations, expressions, knowledge skills, as well as instruments, objects, artifacts, and cultural spaces associated therewith of living communities.
The aim of this applied research was to use CIDOC CRM for modeling Iranian Intangible Cultural Heritage Elements. This is a multi-method research and most of the research methods used are qualitative ones (such as content analysis and documentary method). Beside the research methods, some special tools and techniques have been utilized in research.
Available documents of the Iranian intangible cultural heritage elements were chosen as the sample. By reading the documents several times, the most important entities were extracted. These entities were categorized and their values were recorded in a table.
In the second phase of the research these recognized and categorized entities were mapped with the CIDOC CRM and the first version of the modeling of extracted entitles and properties were prepared. Based on this modeling and for implementing the database in the selected software (Qoqnus: software based on CIDOC CRM that is developed by NOSA Company in Iran) a process with ten steps were planned. In the third phase of the project, these ten steps were operationalized and the model was implemented in a specific Qoqnus database (“Iranian Intangible Cultural Heritage Elements”).
All the experiences and mapping of each step were recorded and reported in this research. The Persian database is available online (http://www.qoqnus.nosa.com). The extensions of CIDOC CRM in this research and the modeling of Iranian intangible cultural heritage elements based on CIDOC CRM proposed in this study can be used by cultural heritage institutions and organizations at national and international levels but it requires training.
