Performing the Intercultural Archive: Lina de Guevara's Puente Theatre in Special Collections

About

We acknowledge with respect the lək̓ʷəŋən-speaking peoples on whose traditional territory the university stands, and the Songhees, Esquimalt, and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day. Power to all forms of anti-colonial resistance, wherever, whenever.

Rowan Watts recently received his BA double majoring in English Honours and Theatre from the University of Victoria. Rowan is a Lead Research Assistant for the Visualizing Braided Narratives Project, and during his undergraduate degree, was a Senior Staff Editor for the Martlet Independent Newspaper, a JCURA scholar, the Managing Editor of the Albatross, Vice President of the English Students’ Association, and played Hason in Luis Alfaro’s Mojada (Phoenix Theatre).

This digital exhibition and the dramatic reading that it showcases were made possible by the Peter and Ana Lowens University of Victoria Special Collections Student Fellowship, and the indispensable mentorship of Dr. Sasha Kovacs and Christine Walde. Rowan would also like to thank Heather Dean, UVic’s Associate Director of Special Collections, for her guidance; Gabby Blake, Judy Caranto, Janina Ferrer, Ximena Garduño, and Julia Patterson for their industry and impassioned performances; Chris Stewart, for his mellifluous sound design; and Megan Farrell, for faithfully capturing our work on camera.
